ICASA Change of Regulations Regarding Ownership

ICASA has given notice of its intention to create regulations relating to ownership and control of licences issued under the ECA within the context of transformation of the industry. This will apply to all WAPA members which hold a class or individual licence issued by ICASA.

In its Findings Document and Position Paper on its Inquiry into Equity Ownership by Historically Disadvantaged Groups and the Application of the ICT Sector Code in the ICT Sector, ICASA has adopted the following conclusions which will inform the content of the proposed regulations:

Ensuring Universal Availability of Broadband Services

In November last year, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) called for comments on the draft International Mobile Telephony (IMT) Roadmap. Taking up the case of its members in this landmark initiative, WAPA sent its input to ICASA. The IMT is an important process that seeks to ensure universal availability of broadband services, a vibrant and competitive telecommunications industry as well as promote investment in the country.
